Days 6 & 7...we made it to Guangzhou

Our last day in Shanxi province we went to the History Museum.  Everything was in Chinese but our guide Michael is the best.  Learned a little about the Province where Meili was born and lived for almost four years. Lots of old stuff inside this building...

Next day we are off to Guangzhou where we will have Meili's medical exam, blood test (yuk) and be sworn in as her parents at the US Consulate along with a bunch of other signatures and thumbprints.  We are all ready for some cleaner air and a change of scenery.  We will fly 2.5 hours south in China...sort of like travelling from Chicago to Columbia, SC.
At the airport in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province ready to depart.
Saying goodbye to Michael, our guide extraordinaire.
He has been our lifeline for the last 5 days.
Excited about my first plane ride!
She did great on her first ride on a plane.  Freaked out a lot about wearing the seatbelt, she was very uncomfortable, crying and resisting the seatbelt even when it was VERY loose, not even touching her. I could not comfort her or make her understand the seatbelt rule.  I don't know why she was so upset but it was huge deal for some reason.  You know what, kid, forget the seatbelt.  I've always thought it was kind of a stupid rule, too.
That made her happy and she warmed right up to me and everyone sitting around us.  There was a baby behind us and the Chinese version of peekaboo started before take-off.  Meili offered and shared her snacks with the nice lady behind us and her baby.  Also offered to share her snack with the sleeping man beside us and the two business travelers in front of us.  No takers except for the baby:)  She's very social and friendly and a little head strong.  Maybe a lot..

Now settled in our new hotel in Guangzhou.  As I was unpacking, little Miss M was helping me and found the swimsuits.   Ready to go swimming...  I love this picture of her looking at herself in the mirror.  Obviously, likes a lot of bows in her hair today.

Goodnight, everyone, from Guangzhou, China!

  2. Our Mya didn't like seatbelts either. Our first plane ride was exhausting. And several can trips after that! But eventually, she got used to it :)
